11th Annual Women 4 Women Repair Affair - A Team Effort! On Saturday, June 13, 2009, the Women 4 Women volunteer team helped the New Directions Housing Corporation successfully paint our 33rd home which belongs to an elderly woman in the California Neighborhood. Women 4 Women volunteers join the efforts of New Directions Housing Corporation every year for the Repair Affair event to improve the safety, security and weather efficiency of a home of an elderly or disabled woman. Thank you Joyce Seymour for organizing this effort year after year and to everyone who participated. Please plan on joining us next year. It’s Tee Time - Register Now! She Ran Like A Girl Carol Cornette, a supporter of Women 4 Women recently sent out a challenge for all women in the community to place a “sure bet” on women by contributing to Women 4 Women in honor of Rachel Alexander and former Churchill Downs Jockey, Donna Barton. Carol was inspired after watching Rachel Alexander beat the field of colts in the Belmont Stakes. Carol said that “running like a girl was an extreme compliment.” She challenges other women to put down at least $20 by turning Rachel Alexander’s win into something positive for all women. To contribute, log on to www.w4w.org and click on “Donate 4 Today.” Norton Women's Pavilion Champions 4 Her Walk, Run & Festival A Big Success Thanks to everyone who helped out, attended and participated, the second annual Norton Women's Pavilion Champions 4 Her Walk, Run & Festival was a wonderful success. As a result of everyone's hard work, we had nearly 1,700 participants come out to Waterfront Park enjoy the wonderful weather and our great event. Thanks to our generous sponsors, we also met our sponsorship goals, allowing us to put every dollar raised back in the hands of the beneficiary partners. In an economic climate where sponsorship fundraising is down, this is a true testament to the dedication and understanding our local businesses have about the benefits of inspiring women and girls. Final numbers are still being tallied, and we'll have a total for the beneficiary partners in the coming weeks, so stay tuned. In the mean time, we're already gearing up for 2010.
Congratulations to Alexandria Mills who visited the Women 4 Women booth and won a $50 gift certificate donated by Whole Foods Market. |
