| Heart of the Community Award goes to Bettie and Charlie Johnson
A record 1,400 people attended the luncheon, which was sold out. "The award is given to honor individuals who have given beyond the limits of ordinary activity," said Women 4 Women Founder Cissy Musselman, who presented the award. "The award is earned by those whose life is shaped by the mysterious power of the human heart." "Through their amazing involvement and generosity, Charlie and Bettie inspire all of us to do the work that we do," said Ann Coffey, executive director of Women 4 Women. Charlie Johnson is a nationally renowned entrepreneur; Bettie Johnson is a nursing home administrator and former educator. Supporting education-related causes has been a priority for the Johnsons; in 2003, they received the President's Award of the United Negro College Fund. Individually and together, Bettie and Charlie Johnson have served on the boards of many service organizations and made financial contributions to many causes, including $1 million to the University of Louisville to endow a minority chair in logistics and distribution. Past recipients of the Jewish Hospital Healthcare System Heart of the Community Award include Andy Fisher (golf pro), Debbie Scoppechio (Creative Alliance), Cathy Zion (Today's Woman), Bruce Meza (Humana Foundation) and Lois Mateus (Brown Forman).
