 | Women 4 Women welcomes new board members
 | New board members, Shelley Bishop (top) and Thelma Ferguson (bottom)
| Three outstanding Louisvillians have joined the Women 4 Women board in the last few months. They are:
- Shelley Bishop, president of Jewish Hospital Medical Center East
- Thelma Ferguson, president of Chase Kentucky
- Meredith Loeb, partner, Loeb and Loeb Financial Services
Louisville's women leaders have consistently demonstrated their commitment to making our community the best place for girls, women and their families to live. We are fortunate that so many have volunteered for the Women 4 Women board, now and in the past.
Luncheon set records in attendance, money raised
We exceeded our goals for attendance and fund-raising at the September 13 Women 4 Women luncheon, which featured motivational speaker and best-selling author Gail Blanke. The luncheon sold out so that we hosted more than 1,400 guests; 50 percent more than last year! And while we hoped to net $65,000 for the organization's operating budget, we netted closer to $90,000 plus.
Special thanks to all our contributors including our major sponsors: Jewish Hospital Medical Center East, Anthem, Brown-Forman and Chase.
Stay tuned for updates on our efforts to lure Oprah Winfrey to Louisville in the future! | |

| Did You Know?
A woman's heart works differently than a man's—it beats faster, for instance, and takes longer to relax between beats. And symptoms of a heart attack in women differ, sometimes dramatically, from those in men.
But one in five women is misdiagnosed during a heart attack, partly because in the past, most research into heart disease was done on men.
For one thing, women aren't as likely as men to experience chest pain before or during a heart attack. Women's warning signs—nausea, profuse sweating, unusual fatigue, pain between the shoulder blades—may be mistaken for indigestion, gallbladder disease or even anxiety.
But that's changing. The Center for Gender-Specific Medicine at Jewish Hospital Medical Center East has EKG equipment that differentiates between male and female hearts. The center also takes into account that women and men differ in their experience of diseases such as lung cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis, asthma and sports injuries. For more information, go to www.jewishhopsital.org and click on the link for Gender-Specific Medicine.
Let's keep being bold together,
