Women 4 Women tackles another Bold Goal: Financial Literacy

Freshman nursing students at Spalding University will learn how to manage their finances--everything from living expenses to student loans--as part of a new partnership among Women 4 Women, Spalding, the National Center for Family Literacy, the University of Louisville and others.

The partnership is part of Women 4 Women's Bold Goal to improve financial literacy among women in Louisville.

The nursing students will take Financial Success 101, a one-credit course, beginning in January 2007. They'll develop a personal financial plan and then, when they complete the course, they'll be paired with a mentor/coach in the community to help them follow through.

The National Center for Family Literacy and the National Endowment for Financial Education are designing the curriculum for the course, and the University of Louisville is designing the coaching program. The first class at Spalding will be considered a pilot for the programs, which will be monitored by the universities.

In the future, the programs will be piloted by other partners--the Center for Women and Families, Jefferson County Public Schools Adult Education and the Community Action Partnership.

Women 4 Women would like to extend special thanks to CHASE and National City banks for their leadership in sponsoring the program, which is also seeking additional sponsors.
Golf scramble is a success

Congratulations to the Carol Heil Team and the University of Louisville Women's Athletics Team, winners of the annual Women 4 Women golf tournament on Aug. 28 at the Cardinal Club in Simpsonville! The foursomes were among 36 teams competing in the sold-out scramble. The silent auction which followed was our most successful ever, raising more than $9,000. Many thanks to all of our participants; our host, University of Louisville Women's Athletics; and our generous sponsors. Lead sponsor for the tournament was Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Kentucky.

Here is how the teams placed:
Gross Team Winners: 1st, Carol Heil Team (Heil, Vance, Smith, Harlage); 2nd, Nelligan Sports Marketing Team (Porter, Edwards, Hayden, Kelly); 3rd, Drs. Vance and Stovall Team (Schmidt, Karibo, Stemler, Ross)
