Women 4 Women receives $300,000 grant
from Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation

Angela Braly (at microphone) presented W4W with a $300,000 check.
At Women 4 Women's 2007 Annual Luncheon on September 10, the keynote speaker, Angela Braly, president and CEO of WellPoint (the parent company of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield) presented Women 4 Women with a $300,000 grant to be used to fund our Fit 4 Me program.

Now called the "Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation Fit 4 Me," the six-week after-school program focuses on improving the nutrition, fitness and health of middle school girls. The grant, to be awarded over a three-year period, will help Women 4 Women expand the program and build a "tool kit" that includes curriculum and exercises so other schools and community centers may replicate it for their girls.

Dennis Riggs receives "HEART" award

Also at this year's Annual Luncheon, Dennis Riggs, president and CEO of The Community Foundation of Louisville was named the recipient of the 2007 Jewish Hospital & St. Mary's HealthCare HEART OF THE COMMUNITY AWARD. Lindy and Bill Street offer $50,000 matching gift

Prior to the luncheon, Lindy and Bill Street gave Women 4 Women a $25,000 matching gift to assist in securing new members for the organization's Champions 4 Her Club, which is for donors who give $1,000 annually. At the luncheon, Denise Ivey, President and Publisher of The Courier-Journal, who is the chair of the Champions 4 Her Club, encouraged the audience to think about their charitable giving and if possible, to make an investment in the work Women 4 Women is doing in the community to improve the health and economic well-being of women and girls. The response was tremendous and 22 new Champions 4 Her members signed up that very day. Lindy and Bill have now extended their generous gift with an additional $25,000.

If you are interested in learning more about the Champions 4 Her Club, there are several recruitment events scheduled for this fall. Please contact Ann L. Coffey (ann@w4w.org or 502.561.8060 x1017) to get your name added to the invitation lists.
