The event was a HUGE success!! A sincere thank you to all who participated, volunteered, and fundraised.
We had almost 1,700 walkers/runners, and to date we have raised more than $160,000 to help our local women and girls, exceeding all our goals!!
Event Overview
Ten local organizations with missions to improve the status of girls, women and their families joined together to create a community-wide, signature event to raise money and awareness.
The organizations included:
• Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana
• The Center for Women & Families
• Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana
• Maryhurst
• Mom's Closet Resource Center
• Project Women
• UofL Athletics
• UofL Women's Center/PEACC
• West Louisville Girls Choir
• Women 4 Women
The Champions 4 Her Walk, Run & Festival, occurred on June 21, 2008 and included both a 5K Walk, Run and a Festival.
Mayor Abramson joins Women 4 Women officials to introduce
nonprofit fundraising event scheduled for June 21, 2008.
The walkers and runners who participate in the 5K will be able to designate which of the ten organizations will receive the pledges they secure. In addition to the walk/run, a fun-filled festival will be held that features:
- Sidewalk chalk art displays
- Fun activities for children and families (music, arts/crafts, games)
- A special health pavilion for health screenings, exercise demonstrations, and healthy cooking classes
- Exhibit areas for:
- Local nonprofits to promote and explain their services
- Schools and higher education institutions to connect to the community
- Employers to recruit employees
- A meeting area dedicated to helping women connect to each other to learn, be inspired, get advice and offer assistance.
